1      RULES

1.1      The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).

1.2      The US Sailing prescriptions will apply.

1.3      The class rules of the International Finn Association (IFA) will apply.

1.4      The racing rules will be changed as follows:

  1. Racing Rules 42.2 and 42.3 and 43.1 are changed as specified in C1.1 of the Finn Class rules.
  2. RRS 62.2 will be changed to shorten the time limit for filing requests for redress based upon actions of the jury on the last day of racing. The changes will be detailed in the Sailing Instructions.

            The changes will appear in full in the sailing instructions. The sailing instructions may also change other racing rules.

1.5      If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.

2      ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1      This regatta is open to all boats of the Finn class.

2.2      Eligible boats may enter by sending the attached Entry Form to the regatta chairman (contact info below) or by registering online at THIS LINK

2.3      Your entry is complete only if it includes a completed entry form and the required fees, and has been received by the regatta chairman.

2.4      Only boats that have entered by 0900 hrs on 3 August 2024 may compete unless the Organizing Authority, at their sole discretion, extends the deadline.

3      FEES

3.1      All fees are in US Dollars

3.2     Members may charge to their WBYC account.  Non-Members pay via credit card (3.5% service fee) or ACH transfer (no fee).

3.3      The entry fee for this event is $40. The entry fee includes racing, beverages (beer, soda, Gatorade and water), trophies and lunch Saturday and Sunday.

3.4      Dinner will be held at the club or a local casual restaurant or brewpub Saturday night. Dinner is an additional $35 per person.

 

4      SCHEDULE

4.1      Racing Schedule:

First Warning Signal; four (4) races are planned

Sunday, August 4

1000 hrs

First Warning Signal, two (2) races are planned. No warning signal will be made after 1200 hrs.

 

4.2      Number of races scheduled: Six (6).

4.3      The organizing authority may increase the number of races on Saturday depending on current and forecast weather conditions.

4.4      Social Schedule:

5      MEASUREMENT

5.1      Equipment may be measured at the sole discretion of the race committee.

6      SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

6.1      The Sailing Instructions will be available at Willow Bank Yacht Club after 0800 hrs on Saturday 3 August 2024.

7      VENUE

7.1      The racing area will be on the waters of Cazenovia Lake

8      THE COURSES

8.1      Courses will be windward-leeward or triangle-windward-leeward (Olympic). Course diagrams are included in the sailing instructions.

9      SCORING

9.1      The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply except as noted in 9.3.

9.2      One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series.

9.3      (a) When 4 or fewer races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

            (b) When 5 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

 

 

10   RADIO COMMUNICATION

10.1    Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. [DP]

11   PRIZES

11.1    The Toilet Bowl Trophy will be awarded to the winner. As a sacred Finn class artifact, the Toilet Bowl Trophy will remain at WBYC with the winner’s name engraved on it. The winner will receive a more portable version of the Toilet Bowl.

12   ATTIRE

12.1    Casual but appropriate for a family yacht club.

13   HOUSING

13.1    Tent and Trailer camping are welcomed at WBYC. Bathrooms and showers are available in the upper level of the clubhouse.

14   LOCAL ACCOMMODATIONS

14.1    The Brewster Inn, Brae Loch Inn, Lincklaen House and Hampton Inn are all within a few minutes drive of WBYC. Hotels on the east side of Syracuse are generally within 35 minutes drive. Other properties may be available through Airbnb, VRBO, Trip Advisor and other similar services.

In consideration of your accepting my entry, I warrant that my boat will be outfitted and equipped in accordance with the International Finn Class Rules. By entering this regatta and by starting any race, I agree to comply with all conditions of the race and decisions of the race committee, and do for myself, my personal representatives, heirs and assigns, waive any and all claims as may accrue to me against Willow Bank Yacht Club, their officers, directors, members, employees, and agents, and any one or more of them arising out of the participation of my yacht in this regatta or arising from any activities related to this event. I further acknowledge and agree that Willow Bank Yacht Club, their officers, directors, members, employees, or agents assume no liability or responsibility for damage to any boat or personal injury to a skipper or others suffered while participating in this regatta, including pre race and post race activities. I acknowledge and agree that the decision to start or to continue a race is solely my responsibility as skipper.

16   RIGHT TO USE LIKENESS

16.1    By entering the regatta a competitor grants the Organizing Authority in perpetuity to make, use and/or show, from time to time at their discretion, any photographs, motion pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of him/her taken during the period of competition without compensation.

17   WBYC CLUB RULES

17.1    Competitors and their guests are welcome to use the club facilities while they are attending the regatta, however they must abide by the WBYC Club Rules. The rules are posted HERE

17.2    The rule prohibiting pets on the club grounds is enforced. Please arrange for pet care off the club property during the regatta.

17.3    The club complies with all government mandates related to COVID. At the moment, there are no government mandates related to COVID that will affect the regatta. Please refrain from attending the regatta if you have COVID.
