Willow Bank offers outstanding lake frontage and views, summer and winter boat storage, a boat launch, two picnic areas, two decks, a beach, a swimming area, swimming lessons, sailing lessons, children’s programming, a take-out restaurant and a lively social program. Originally formed as a sailing club, it has become a summer home to many families in Cazenovia and the surrounding area.
The adult sailing program at Willow Bank is one of the most active in Central New York. Active racing fleets include Lightnings, Flying Dutchmen, Finns, Lasers and Sunfish. Each of these fleets host at least one regatta over the summer and fleet members will often travel to other area clubs for regattas as well. Formal club “point” races are held on Sundays to determine a club champion in each fleet. Point races are a great way to learn from other sailors and hone your sailing and crewing skills. On Saturdays, the club runs very informal Fun-for-All races which provide the perfect excuse to spend the afternoon on the lake. Members also have sailing opportunities during the week with the Women of Willow Bank fleet (WOW) sailing/socializing events on Wednesday evenings, and informal racing practice on Tuesday evenings. In addition, we offer group adult lessons and private lessons for anyone looking to learn how to sail.
Younger members enjoy swimming lessons, sailing lessons, Junior Fleet and the Sailfish Program. The Sailfish Program is a great way to expose your 5-10 year old to basic sailing, canoeing, crafts, team building and other summer activities. Junior sailing lessons offer a fun way for children from 8 to 18 to learn how to sail. Junior Fleet is our junior racing team. Kids 10 and older represent WBYC in local Interclub regattas and compete at the Junior Olympics in Rochester. They also race for club champion bragging rights. Our youngest members have the best sand pile on the lake and a lifeguarded swimming area for hours of summer fun!
Our hearty Social schedule includes club picnics on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day, The Commodore’s Ball, a Member-Guest Clambake, an End of Summer Party, our legendary Friday Night Fish Fries and several Friday evening happy hour gatherings with live music.
With the exception of the Club Manager, Purser and seasonal staff, Willow Bank is entirely a volunteer organization that depends on active participation by all members.
